A little over a year ago, a friend told me to leap and the net would find me. I’m not sure what that net actually looks like but I’m hoping it’s strong and true. After much thought and many conversations, it’s hard to believe it’s finally happening. In a few weeks, we will be officially homeless, well, at least in a home on a firm foundation.
We sold our house in the suburbs of Austin, Texas, disposed of most of our things, a majority of which, surprisingly, meant nothing to us, and placed our remaining belongings neatly in a small, 10 x 10 climate-controlled storage unit, awaiting our return from however long we choose to be on the road. It’s amazing how much you can accumulate the larger your house gets but it’s even more amazing how much stuff you discover you really don’t need.
Our fifth wheel is packed with the items we thought we had to have. Our four-legged girls will have plenty of room to be comfortable in the back seat of the Ford truck to look out their own windows, and soon we’ll be off on our adventures.
While we’ve had what I consider normal anxiety in making this decision, not once have either of us looked back. As our tag line states, we are ready to live simply and love life. We know there will be bumps along the way, as we’ve read from other full-time RV’ers blogs, but we’re together, we’re as prepared as we know to be, and our home just decreased in size from more than 2,000 square feet to under 400. Our tiny house on wheels will now offer us various views of ever-changing backyards and new neighbors almost daily.
I’m sure some friends and family will think we’re crazy, others will be envious, and still more may join us in our adventures. Give us a few months on the road as we share our travels, our challenges, and our life, and, who knows, we may see you in our traveling neighborhood in the near future.
Let the living begin!
Enjoy your new adventure! We have been in our fifth wheels ( yes we are on our second one) for 9 years. The places we have been from California to Florida and in between, the people we have met I can’t even begin to tell you have been wonderful!!!
